Preface to the Third Edition
The third edition of the Atlas of Osteopathic Techniques continues to build on the osteopathic armamentarium of safe and effective manipulative treatment by adding and modifying a number of techniques, better defining techniques in a number of chapters, and by moving some techniques to chapters that better follow their principles. We continue to illustrate and describe these techniques in the most visually effective manner, so that the photos relate most closely to the proximal text. Again, we have attempted as much as possible, to keep each technique on the same or, whenever necessary, on the adjacent page. In this third edition, we have continued to modify and expand the counterstrain and muscle energy chapters, as well as modify the principles and descriptions within the “Osteopathic Cranial Manipulative Medicine” chapter (formerly “Osteopathy in the Cranial Field”) in order to follow the recommended curriculum and terminology of the Education Council on Osteopathic Principles (ECOP) of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM).
